🔥 Why should you NOT wear a hoop as the first piece of jewellery in your new piercing?
We know that earrings look amazing. They make you think about the ultimate style you want to wear. But if you've just got a piercing, we're telling you this with all the honesty in the world: a hoop is NOT the best choice for the first time you put it on.
The Piercer of Acme Tattoo gives us the main reasonsWe prioritise the health of your skin and good healing. We tell you why choosing a straight barbell (and not a ring) is the best way for your piercing to heal properly and not give you any problems from the start.
The borehole channel is straight, not curved
When we drill you, the channel we make is a straight line. If you put a ring in, you force the wound to curve, which creates unnecessary pressure and can cause it to heal poorly. The result: inflammation, discomfort and even deformation of the canal.

Constantly presses on the wound
The ring exerts force towards the edges of the perforation. If it is too small on top, it can strangle the skin, cause necrosis (yes, tissue death) or rejection. A straight bar, on the other hand, leaves enough space for the tissue to breathe and heal better.
️ Increased risk of shock and infection
Do you sleep on that side? Do you have long hair? Do you wear tight clothes? An earring snags easily, moves around all the time and drags bacteria straight into your borehole. This complicates healing and opens the door to infection.
It does not give a good view of the healing process.
When you wear a fixed, straight piece of jewellery, it is easier to control how the wound evolves. With a ring, it can turn, hide scabs or move without you noticing. This makes it difficult to see if something is wrong, and delays any necessary treatment.
Fast aesthetics vs. long-term health
We know you want to look amazing from day one, but wearing an earring from the start can leave you with a damaged piercing, swollen tissue or scarring forever. Patience is keyA straight titanium jewel ensures you a healthy base to change to the rim of your choice later on.
In a nutshell...
The first jewel is NOT just an accessory, it is a fundamental part of healing. That is why in our PIERCER always recommends implant grade titanium straight rods for all first drillings.
You want your piercing to be perfect, don't you? Then get it right from the start
